Clinical Training for Mental Health Care Professionals in the Imago Relationship Therapy model:

Focusing on clinical theory, practice and therapeutic processes - clinical demonstrations and supervision

Theoretical Focus...the unconscious influence of childhood on mate selection, the unconscious function of adult relationships and the potential for personal growth and spiritual renewal

Practical Emphasis...acquiring therapeutic procedures and processes that help couples create a conscious relationship and develop relationship skills that are useful in a variety of contexts.

Some of the Admission Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a mental health discipline
  • Current practice which includes couples is helpful
  • Membership in a national professional organization
  • 300 hours of post graduate supervision
  • Participation in the two day "Getting the Love You Want" couples workshop

Some of the Course Requirements

  • Complete twelve days (total of 96 hours) of intensive training
  • Complete assigned readings
  • Participate in clinical exercises using Imago skills
  • Present video tape samples of clinical work of couples for supervision
  • Serve as support therapist at the two day "Getting the Love You Want" couples workshop after the 12 day course is completed
Clinical Skills:
  • Learn to facilitate processes between partners that promotes safe communication, healing and growth
  • Specific Imago skills taught during training:
    • Initial Interview
    • Couples Dialogue
    • Parent / Child Dialogue
    • Holding Exercise
    • Behavior Change Request Dialogue
    • Container Exercise
  • Learn to work with affective experience in contrast to cognitive material

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will obtain knowledge and understanding of relational development and arrest, as well as resulting characterological adaptations in primary relationships.
  • Participants will obtain understanding of the concept of the imago and the role it plays in partner selection and subsequent stages of the relationship.

Education Training Experience (for Non-Clinical persons)

This training is available for individuals interested in learning the Imago theory and practice in order to apply its skills in the business world or professional settings. The information gained and skills learned will promote personal growth and affect one's personal relationships as well as relationships in their workplace.

To be eligible for this experience, you will need to:

  • Participate in the "Getting the Love You Want" couples workshop
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from professionals that affirms you can understand graduate level concepts and work with clinical material
